Baird & Warner has been doing business since 1855.

The oldest independent real estate brokerage in the nation started in Chicago over a century and a half ago on March 28, 1855 when Lucius Duncan Olmsted loaned $5,000 to Edward Casey & Brothers, taking security mortgages on property along Washington Street between Franklin and Market.

Since that time, B&W has survived the Great Chicago Fire and the Great Depression, helped to build such Chicago landmarks as Union Station and the “L,” facilitated the creation of new communities and restored old ones.  On the cusp of Fair Housing Month, it’s also pertinent to note that the firm was instrumental in the fight for Equal Opportunity Housing.

B&W’s longevity and stability are an unprecedented accomplishment in the real estate industry; 155 years is a milestone reached by few American companies.  Further still, only a handful of U.S. businesses in any industry can claim to have thrived under the direction of the same local family through five generations of independent ownership and operation.

Five generations doing what’s right, taking a stand, and making a difference for people in real estate.
